Welcome to Platinum Disco's Blog

What to consider when choosing your first dance…

What to consider when planning your first dance…

Congratulations on your engagement! Now the planning begins…!

Perhaps you already love a special song with which you’d like to start your marriage; but if you’re not sure which to choose, I can help inspire you.

Do you and your fiancé have an ‘Our Song’? That song which makes you both burst into singing whenever it comes on the radio? Choose that, nothing else will quite be as special to you.

Do you and your fiancé have a favourite artist? Perhaps you’ve been to a special gig together which holds lovely memories for you both. Go through the singer’s back catalogue and see if you can find a song which matches how you feel for each other.

Do you and your fiancé have a favourite film? Did you go to the pictures on your first date? Check out the film soundtrack for inspirational tunes.

Still wondering..?

You need to consider…

Your confidence with dancing? Do you think you’d like a song with a gentle pace that you can sway to, or maybe you’re feeling more brave and would like something faster…

What’s your relationship’s ‘personality’? Are you the couple that’s always the life and soul of the party? Then maybe you should choose a song that you can really wow your guests with. Funny, romantic, outrageous…? You choose!

And finally, think about The Dress! Too many couples prepare their dance and never consider how the Bride’s dress might limit her movement. Also, don’t forget that, just like that dance legend Ginger Rogers, the Bride will do everything the Groom does but “backwards and in high heels”. So choose a song that she can dance to comfortably!

Above all, choose a song that you both LOVE and will want to dance to again and again. Make it the song that you have at your Golden Wedding Anniversary! Good luck.

Worried about being the centre of attention? It’s your wedding day! You’re supposed to be the focus of the room! However, don’t be afraid of having all the eyes in the room on you. Everybody that you’ve invited to your big day loves you and wants you to have a lovely time. They are not your ‘audience’, they are your family and friends. Be encouraged by their love and support for you. They’ll think you both look wonderful, I promise!

I can help create, with the happy couple, a dance that suits their personality, confidence and dance ability.

No previous dance skills are required, and lessons can be held locally or at a location of your choice.

Contact Naomi to discuss how you can begin to create a lovely surprise for your family and friends, and step out in style!

Party DJ For Hire In Hertfordshire | Platinum Disco

We all love to reminisce about the good old days. There is a certain nostalgia in remembering our youth isn’t there? Life was carefree and there to enjoy, not worrying about anything else. Just living for the moment and not letting anything get in your way. How great would it feel to be able to live that moment again, if only for one night? Well, with theme nights you can do just that and so much more if you wish!
Already getting excited? Are you wondering what theme night to have? Wonder no more my friend! Platinum Disco are here to help you with some ideas for your theme night. As always we want to make your theme night, a night to remember. With our help, you’ll be whisked away to your favourite time of yesteryear!

What sort of theme are you looking for then?

You might be wondering why I’ve just asked this question, but wonder not! It is purely to help you determine what sort of theme night you want to have! Are you looking to base your theme night on a particular decade i.e. the 60s, 70s, or 80s? Perhaps you want to base your theme around a favourite film or series you are particularly fond of like Dirty Dancing, Star Wars, The Godfather, Star Trek or even The X-Files!!! Yes, the possibilities are endless aren’t they?
What about having a theme night based on Halloween? Halloween is an inspiring time of year as it allows people of all ages to bring out the inner child in them again and to just have fun! You could ask your guests to come dressed as their favourite urban legend or favourite horror film character. You could even incorporate party games on the night, such as apple bobbing. Please remember to use water though, as vodka burns the eyes you know!!!!

What to wear? What not to wear? Help me with what to wear please!!!!

There are literally 100s of websites out there offering fancy dress costumes that you can buy, use for the night and keep forever. Gone are the days where you would have to travel to your nearest fancy dress hire shop, pay an arm and a leg for hiring it and then have to travel all the way back to the shop to drop off your costume. You can now order the costume well in advance of the theme night, try it on to see if it fits and then keep it for your next theme night.
Here’s a quick guide on the sorts of clothes you should look at hiring for your theme night if you’re basing it on decades:
The 60s – For the ladies - Mini dresses, Mod dresses, Colour block dresses, Hip summer dresses, Mondrian dresses. For the men – Beatles suits, Mod outfits, Paisley Outfits, Collarless Shirts, Denim Shirts, Farrah Shirts, Plaid shirts and outfits. Phew!!! That’s a lot!!!
The 70s – For the ladies – Long sleeved maxi dresses, Floral print dresses, Polka Dot mini dresses, Midi dresses, Denim waistcoats and trousers, long sleeved blouses and shirts. For the men – Hawaiian shirts, Patterned shirts, Harris Tweed and Corduroy jackets, Denim jackets and trousers, Flight jackets and baseball jackets, Wool jumpers. Phew!!! That’s a lot too!!!
The 80s – For the ladies – Black plain trousers, Midi dresses, Floral blouses, Short sleeved cropped blouses, Shoulder pads (Think Dynasty), Playsuits, Multi-coloured dresses, Miniskirts, Knickerbockers jeans (Scary!). For the men – Sweatshirts, Sports jackets, Baseball jackets, blue jeans, Combat shirts, Bomber jackets, Combat trousers, Chinos, Tracksuits. Phew!!! That was a lot too!!!

What if my theme night doesn’t go as planned? Help me!!!

Sometimes things don’t go to plan and you may want to move away from a particular set decade of music. It might be that people are beginning to get bored or they ask you to play more up to date hits. If that’s the case, we at Platinum Disco will always ensure that you have access to not only the hits of your theme night, but the hits of other decades also. It’s as simple as requesting the track on the night from the D.J. or you can also use our Playlist page. We’ll provide a unique pin number to you and you can provide this to your guests who can contribute to the lists before the theme night’s begun too!
What we’ll do then, is formulate a list of all requested songs to build a musical profile we think will be fitting for the event. We have an ever-growing library so we can be sure to accommodate all requests made. Please take a look at our list below for the genres we cover. We also cover other genres so don’t worry if you don’t see it in our list:
50’s | 60’s | 70’s | 80’s | 90’s | 00’s | Rock n roll | Indie | Rock | Pop | Club Classics |Kisstory | Edm | Latest Chart music | Oldschool | Urban | Rnb | Hip Hop | Greek | Bollywood | Bhangra | Turkish | Reggae | Bashment | Soulful House | Garage | Deep House | Uk funky/Bass | Hardcore | Drum n Bass | Jungle
If you’re not after a D.J., we can also provide live entertainment. Take a look at our live entertainment here!
We hope you have the theme night of your life! Please feel free to call us on 07946 836836 or contact us for more information!!! Halloween’s just around the corner you know!!!

Christmas and New Year’s Eve are coming! I need a DJ quick!!!!

Christmas and New Year’s Eve are coming! I need a DJ quick!!!!

If you’re reading this during the summer of 2015, the first thing that’s probably popped into your head is “Why are Platinum Disco talking about Christmas and New Year’s Eve so early in the year?”
Well, as much as it does seem as if these two occasions are far, far away, they are popping their heads round the corner, waving frantically at you screaming “Hey, have you sorted out a Christmas or New Year’s party for you and your work colleagues yet?”
We at Platinum Disco are here to help you with a couple of tips which might help your events go off a little more smoothly. There are bound to be some things you haven’t taken into consideration before booking your venue for the event of your work colleagues’ year, so take a look at some of the questions you may just be asking yourself very soon:

1. Where’s my venue then? – You can tell when a Christmas or New Year’s Eve party’s been good when your colleagues talk about it upon their return to work, or even for weeks afterwards! Take into consideration the age of your work colleagues too. You could hire a hotel, bar/restaurant or stately home for your event.

2. How much is all this going to cost? – We thought you’d never ask! Have you considered sharing your event with other companies? This could not only save you considerable money and expense in regards to booking the venue and hiring entertainment, but could also make the night even more special, as it will introduce a more diverse group of people to each other!

3. What theme am I going to have? – A lot of the time, you may be so busy organising your party that the sheer idea of having a themed night completely disappears from your thoughts. Have you considered perhaps having a masquerade ball to add some sophistication to the night? No one’s obliged to wear ball gowns and it might be fun for everyone to wear a mask and try to guess who’s under the mask! Also, you might want a colour theme, perhaps green or red, whereby all guests have to incorporate the colour in the attire they’re wearing for the evening? Very ho-ho festve! Or maybe, you might go for a fancy dress theme, whereby everyone can come dressed as their favourite character either from book, television or film? The possibilities are endless. Your imagination can run wild with what to dress as and again this will ensure the topic on the next working day is the event!

4. Shall we play games? – To add a bit of the fun factor to your event, perhaps you could consider holding competitions for your colleagues? This would also help other guests mingle with each other if you are considering sharing your event with other work organisations. You could play the classic game of charades where everyone has to guess what someone is describing only through mime or you could play Who Am I? Get some post-it notes, write down something to guess, plop it on the person’s head who has to guess and laugh as they try to guess what is stuck to them! For a more adventurous organisation, perhaps you could have a dance contest whereby everyone throws some shapes on the dance floor, with the best dancer winning a prize. All of the games will cost mere pennies to organise and prepare, so if you’re organising the event for your boss it will show just how cost effective you are too!!!

5. Can I ask the DJ to dress up as Father Christmas please? – Whilst some may consider dressing up as Saint Nick awkward, we at Platinum Disco don’t mind dressing up when we’re DJ’ing! We’re here to please you and we want to make your night special. If you are partial to elves, we can also provide some elves to entertain you at your event too!!! We have an amazing list of entertainers we can provide for your event and when you check out our list and awesome pictures here, I am sure you will want to book at least one of them to ensure your party goes with a bang!

We want to make your night a night to remember. Christmas or New Year’s Eve is coming!!!!! Get in quick and book our services at Platinum Disco!! We can provide a free no obligation instant quote and we will consider any request you have. Checked out our Extras yet? Why not?
If you’re also wishing to book a Christmas or New Year’s Eve DJ then look no further! We offer a wide selection of music to choose from. You can request tracks to be played at your event here. We can guarantee the music you love will be available at your event. Any last minute requests will be taken on the night too.

50 First Dance Songs For That Special Wedding Moment You Share Together

50 First Dance Songs For That Special Wedding Moment You Share Together

It’s one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make in your entire lifetime.
Your wedding ceremony and catering are usually dealt with by an outside organisation, but there’s one thing that’s entirely your decision and can’t be decided by anyone else. Your first dance song together at your wedding.
There’s a few questions you will probably ask yourself too. Do you want the dance to be shared just between yourself and your husband/wife, or do you want to get your family and friends involved too? If you really want to impress your friends and family you could both take dance lessons and impress everyone with your amazing ballroom dancing skills!
Perhaps that isn’t your cup of tea? Don’t worry! I’m sure you and your friends can put on an amazing street dance routine for your husband/wife? This would go down exceptionally well not only with your one and only, who will be impressed that you took the time out to learn a routine, but also with family and friends, who will see how much you truly love your better half.
If you’re feeling that you’re at a crossroads when choosing THE song for your first dance, we at Platinum Disco can help you out! Check out our list of THE 50 first dance songs for your wedding day below:

1. Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud – “And darling I will be loving you ‘til we’re 70. And baby my heart, could still fall as hard at 23” – Definitely THE wedding song of 2015, full of humour, honesty and sentimentality, it will fit perfectly as your first dance song.

2. Sam Smith – Lay Me Down – “Can I lay by your side? Next to you, you. And make sure you’re alright, I’ll take care of you” – What more could be awesome than holding the one you love and slow dancing to the soothing, sweet voice of Sam Smith?

3. Ellie Goulding – Love Me Like You Do – “You’re the light, you’re the night, You’re the colour of my blood. You’re the cure, you’re the pain, You’re the only thing I wanna touch” – Yes, it’s THAT song from THAT film. This should help you both get in the mood for your honeymoon!!!

4. Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk “Don’t believe me just watch!” – With a similar vibe to Happy, this track will make the dance floor come alive and allow your family and friends to participate in your special moment together. Plus, you can show off your funky dance moves from back in the day too!!!

5. John Legend – All Of Me – “Wants all of you” – A song both of you can relate to and one which can be sung by either one of you to the other one whilst you’re spinning each other around.

Ray Lamontagne – You Are The Best Thing – “The way you move, it makes me crazy, It’s like you see right through me, And make it easier, Believe me, you don’t even have to try, You are the best thing, ever happened to me” – A mellow funky vibe, which will be quite easy to dance to, but might also make the guests get up and dance too. Double result!!!
